Jeju-do is Korea's largest island and a living folk village.
Because of its romantic tropical image, it is a paradise for honeymooners. It is within an hour's flight from Seoul, Busan and Daegu, and there are direct flights from Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Hong Kong. You can also reach Jeju-do by ferry from Busan, Wando or Mokpo.

Jeju-do, located along the northern shore, has an international airport and is a major tourist center. Western hotels and numerous Korean inns are located in the city center.

Seongsanilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) is a volcanic crater on the far eastern end of Jeju-do. Surrounded by 99 peaks, it looks like an ancient castle when seen from afar. A trail up to the western edge of the crater, rises sharply up the side of the cone. A climb up this narrow, steep trail rewards the climber with a most spectacular view. At hike sunrise, from this area, you can enjoy fresh abalone, shellfish and octopus that have been collected by haenyeo, Jeju-do's famous women divers.

The capital of Jeju-do in the 1500's, Seong-eup has been designated as a
Folklore Preservation Zone. There are about 300 traditional houses here and you can meet
the friendly island people that still live behind the stone courtyard walls in thatched-roof and rock homes.

JEJU-DO ISLAND >> Seogwipo

The major city on the southern coast, Seogwipo is connected to Jeju City by the Cross- Island Highways. In addition to the scenery, many kinds of sports can also be enjoyed in this area.


Jungmun Resort is an integrated tourism and recreation center located west of Seogwipo. The resort makes the most of the scenic landscape of the area, utilizing the grandeur of Mt. Hallasan, Jeongbang Falls and Jungmun Beach as a backdrop to its sports and recreational facilities and fine accommodations. You will find a botanical gardens, condominiums, hotels, sports centers, a golf course, a riding stable and an oceanarium, among other facilities.

Yeomiji Botanical Gardens, in Jungmunsa Resort, has both a large greenhouse and an outdoor garden. The greenhouse features tropical plants and a 38-meter (125 ft.) observation tower. In the outdoor garden are areas devoted to the styles of other countries including a Japanese traditional garden and an Italian garden.


JEJU-DO ISLAND >> Mt. Hallasan

Covering a major part of Jeju-do, Hallasan is the highest mountain on the island. The top of this inactive volcano, 1,950 m (6,398 ft.) above sea level, can be seen from anywhere on the island. It is traditionally thought to be the home of the Jeju people's spirit.

The whole mountain is protected as a treasure house of unusual flora and fauna. At the peak is a pond, which used to be the crater when the volcano was active. As the seasons change, Mt. Hallasan provides its visitors with different kinds of beauty, its sea of azaleas being note worthy.
